Chongwe River House
Fly Fishing
At the end of the rainy season, April and May, the Lower Zambezi Valley, with the Zambezi River and its many tributaries hold an abundance of fish species, not normally targeted by fly fisherman.
Chongwe House offers guests a unique opportunity to experience the joys of light tackle (3-5 weight) battles with some of Africa’s less known species.
Red breasted Tilapia (Tilapia Rendalli), Kariba Tilapia (Oreochromis Mortimeri) and Nile Tilapia (Oreochromis Niloticus) are just a few of the species found in abundance, that we would be aiming for.
Using flies such as Olive Bead Head Woolly Buggers, Mrs Simpson’s and Walker’s Killers, anglers will walk and canoe to sight fish along the length of the Chongwe River, a distance of approximately eight kilometers.
Starting at the Chongwe Falls and ending at the House, this trip can either be a full day or half day activity.
Guests will be accompanied by an experienced fly fishing guide, who will escort them throughout their journey, pointing out, not only fruitful fishing holes but also the rich diversity of bird and large mammal species, who share the Chongwe River Valley with us. Large catches make this an extremely exciting time of the year to come and experience this unrivalled wilderness.
