Set departures: 4th and 8th Oct 2010

Nyika PlateauNyika PlateauPumulani on Lake Malawi

3 nights at NSEFU Camp, 4 nights at Chelinda Lodge (Robin Pope leads this portion), 3 nights at PUMULANI.

Explore the open grasslands of the high Nyika Plateau with the legendary Robin Pope – yes another remote experience with the Popes! This is an authentic alpine experience within south central Africa. The highland Nyika Plateau, Malawi, boasts immense vistas of high-altitude grasslands, rolling hills, isolated ridges and is bursting with endemic wildlife.

The itinerary is combined with a South Luangwa National Park experience in the Nsefu sector. The Luangwa Valley, which marks the end of the Great Rift Valley, is one of the last unspoilt wilderness areas and possibly the finest wildlife sanctuary in Africa. It covers an area of over 9000 sq. km. through which the meandering Luangwa River runs. The ox bow lagoons, woodland and plains of the valley host huge concentrations of game - including elephant, buffalo, leopard, lion, giraffe, hippo - and over 400 species of birds.

Safari ends on the beautiful shores on Lake Malawi at Pumulani (place of rest!), Nankumba Peninsula. This peninsula in the South end of the Lake is recognised as one of the most beautiful shores of the Lake and borders Lake Malawi National Park. This Park was established in order to protect the cichlid fish unique to the area. In 1984 the park was designated a World Heritage Site.
