South Luangwa National Park Mfuwe area Nsefu Sector Mupamadzi River

MFUWE AREA: Nkwali Camp

Area - The all-weather Mfuwe area has an extensive road system so we can vary the drives each day. Other camps operating in the area, so will see some other vehicles on most drives. However, the road network is comprehensive (especially during the dry season when the more remote roads are open) and the game accustomed to vehicles so the photography opportunities are excellent. A great starting place for a Luangwa Safari.

Gameviewing- the Mfuwe area is undoubtedly the best in Zambia. Excellent leopard, lion and elephant. Thornicroft giraffe (unique to the Luangwa) are seen daily (often near camp).

NSEFU SECTOR: Nsefu Camp and Tena Tena

Area - is more remote. Seasonal bush tracks. Robin Pope Safaris has the only 2 camps in this section of the National Park (1000 sq km) so do not often see other vehicles. The game is less accustomed to the vehicles as we only operate there for 5 months of the year. The area has some spectacular lagoons. Excellent walking.

Gameviewing - nearer camp, as in park. Excellent leopard (but can be sporadic) less lion than Mfuwe area. Great elephant, eland during the dry months. Cookson's wildebeest near the salt pans. Game more wild, particularly during the early months of the season. The game does become used to us as the season continues.

MUPAMADZI RIVER: Walking Mobiles

Area - the Mupamadzi River runs from the escarpment through very remote and varied country (hills with mopane, riverine strip and open plains). On a walk can see three or four contrasting habitats.

Gameviewing - game is wild and shy but can be approached with care. Few elephant but most other Luangwa riverine species. The game is not as concentrated as along the Luangwa River area.
