Wildlife

Situated along the majestic Zambezi River, Lower Zambezi National Park offers abundant wildlife sightings, including crocodiles, hippos, and large water monitor lizards. Its strategic location facilitates the frequent movement of buffalo and elephant between Zimbabwe’s Mana Pools and Lower Zambezi National Parks. The park hosts thriving populations of eland, zebra, wildebeest, waterbuck, bushbuck, and kudu, with impala being the dominant antelope species. While grysbok and duiker sightings are rarer, they are occasionally observed. Predators such as hyenas, lions, and leopards inhabit the area, with wild dog sightings being less common. Home to over 370 bird species, the park is a paradise for birdwatchers, with sightings ranging from colorful bee-eaters, storks, herons, and eagles to kingfishers of various types. The river is alive with the presence of egrets, cormorants, darters, fish eagles, and storks, while rare species like African skimmers, ospreys, and spoonbills add to the park’s avian diversity.
