Wildlife

Mana Pools is widely recognized as one of the best wildlife viewing areas in Africa. It is home to large herds of elephants, buffalo, impala, kudu, zebra, eland, and many more antelope species. The park is especially famous for its large bull elephants, which are often seen feeding on their hind legs. In terms of predators, several prides of lions and the endangered wild dog are regularly spotted, along with the more elusive leopard, cheetah, and spotted hyena. Of the Big Five, only the rhino is absent from Mana Pools. With over 380 bird species, it is also a birding paradise, where herons, storks, cormorants, darters, and African fish eagles are commonly seen near the water. During the drier months, the riverbanks are alive with colonies of Carmine Bee-eaters, creating a stunning display of activity and color. Other notable bird sightings include African skimmers and Pel’s fishing owl, making Mana Pools an unforgettable destination for nature lovers.
