Description

Mana River Camp is situated along the majestic Zambezi River, nestled between the expansive waterway and a popular water pan frequented by elephants for their mud-bathing rituals. The camp is shaded by lush riverine forests, dominated by Trichilia Emetica and the iconic Faidherbia Albida, also known as the apple ring or Anna Tree. This mobile tented camp, classified as a Temporary Extended Camp (TEC), is dismantled at the end of each season, offering guests an authentic bush camping experience reminiscent of the old safari days.

The camp is unfenced, allowing a variety of wildlife to roam freely, creating an immersive and tranquil atmosphere. Elephants are frequent visitors, often making their presence known to guests. Mana River Camp features six thoughtfully positioned tents along the river, including a guide tent, providing guests with breathtaking views of the Zambezi. With its connection to the permanent sister camp, Ingwe Pan, located further inland, Mana River Camp offers a seamless blend of adventure and relaxation in the heart of Mana Pools.

Mana Pools is renowned as one of Africa’s best game viewing areas, with an abundance of wildlife drawn to the water. The park is home to large herds of elephants, buffalo, impala, kudu, zebra, and a variety of antelope species. Mana Pools is particularly famous for its large bull elephants that feed on their hind legs, offering visitors a unique spectacle. Predators such as lion prides and endangered wild dogs are commonly spotted, while leopard, cheetah, and spotted hyena are present but less frequently seen. Of the Big 5, the only missing species is the rhino. The park is also a haven for birdwatchers, with over 380 bird species recorded. Visitors can frequently spot species like herons, storks, cormorants, darters, and African fish eagles around the water. During the dry months from August to November, the riverbanks come alive with vibrant colonies of carmine bee-eaters, creating a stunning display of color and activity. African skimmers and Pels’ fishing owls are also seen.
