Going on safari this time of year is a uniquely beautiful; the landschape is lush and green, pleasant temperatures for activites and great birding.

What kind of weather and temperatures to expect?

During April to mid-May, Zambia, Malawi, and Zimbabwe all experience transitional weather as the wet season transitions to the dry season. Temperatures range from 15°C to 30°C (59°F to 86°F). Thunderstorms are sporadic but not as dramatic as earlier in the year yet they still give rise to some stunning sunrises and sunsets. The level of Lake Malawi is still relatively high as well.

What is the wildlife viewing like?

The rains are tapering off which means there is still water everywhere. The lagoons are brimming with life and they are a great place to spend some time appreciating the various water birds. Thought the bush is still rather dense, the wildlife is still very much present and due to the lush green backdrop, the photographic opportunities are exceptional.

What are the highlights of this time of year?

We are thrilled to re-open Luangwa River Camp in the South Luangwa National Park, as well as John’s Camp in Mana Pools for the new season. Its a great time to explore Mana Pools when there is still so much water and the famous 4 pools are still very full and our Classic Zimbabwe Safari is a fantastic way to make the most of this time of year. Over in Malawi, the beauty of this time of year radiates through all 3 of our properties which are open and in full swing.

Great placesto stay

From luxury riverside lodges to authentic bush camps - from comfort to raw wilderness adventure (John's Camp opens 1 May).
