Description

Hwange National Park is located in the northwest corner of Zimbabwe and is well known for its large herds of elephants which are famous across Africa. It is a haven for over 100 mammal and 400 bird species, the park protects populations of all of Zimbabwe’s endangered species, elephants numbering in excess of 20,000 and what is thought to be one of the largest populations of African wild dog left in the world. Large prides of lion and buffalo are frequently seen here and you have a good chance of spotting leopard in addition to cheetah and spotted hyena. The wild and woolly brown hyena also occurs here and is something of a rarity.

With a variety of luxurious accommodation options available at The Hide, there is something for everyone. The Main Lodge overlooks a wildlife-rich waterhole and offers spacious deluxe, family and honeymoon tents. If you’re looking for a more intimate safari, then the Private Hide offers the perfect setting for couples and individual groups, accommodating up to eight people. It comes complete with a private dining and lounge area, private pool with sun lounges and deck, and wildlife right on your doorstep.

Wildlife

Zimbabwe’s most ‘wildlife–packed’ Park, Hwange has over 100 mammal species – including elephant, buffalo, sable antelope, roan antelope, giraffe, wildebeest, impala, and gemsbok. The Park is well known for its huge elephant population, and perhaps one of the biggest wild dog populations. Of the predators, lion, cheetah, wild dog, leopard are commonly seen. Other species sighted regularly are honey badger, civet, spotted hyena, serval, and African wildcat. The dry season (August – October) seems to be the peak of sightings for game as the animals tend to congregate around the limited waterholes in the Park.
Over 400 species of birds have been sighted here, offering keen birders a little paradise too.
