There are age restrictions for an official walking safari activity. A walk around the camp with a guide is possible. Speak to your guide. Never (let a child) walk alone.

  • Visit the camp kitchen and bake cookie with the kitchen team
  • Star gazing and learning simple constellations
  • Fishing (depending on time of year)
  • Swimming
  • Toasting marshmellows around the fire
  • Visit a local school and village to learn about daily life
  • Learn how to play traditional games like bao

What are handy tips for a family safari?

These are handy hints:

  • Take a couple of magic tricks to have fun with the staff, or anyone you meet in the local community.
  • A back pack for each child with their choice of games, colouring books & toys.
  • A notebook for each child to write down the game they see.
  • Ballpoint pens, pads/stationery, footballs that you can spare if visiting localschools.
  • A cheap pair of binoculars for each child and a easy to use digital camera.
  • Easy reference child friendly bird & mammal books.
What to pack on a family safari?
  • Sunblock, a sturdy hat and after sun.
  • Any medication that a child might need (Flu & Cold Medication, Painkillers etc).
  • If your child uses glasses then pack a spare pair just in case.

  • Nkwali Camp, Luangwa River Camp, Luangwa Safari House: 7yrs+
  • Tena Tena and Nsefu Camp: 12yrs
  • Kuthengo Camp, Mkulumadzi Lodge, Pumulani Lodge: All Ages
  • John’s Camp:  12yrs+ (6yrs+ if whole camp is booked exclusively)
