Well, hello there. I hope that you are fabulously well and have had another glorious weekend. Here in the Luangwa as you can imagine we are all systems go at Luangwa Safari House and have now also managed to get a team up to Nsefu Camp to start opening up the camp for River Journeys.
Just 2 weeks out of our first guests arriving at Nsefu Camp we were somewhat concerned about timings and so Daudi put on his exploration hat and set off with a team and supplies by road to try to reach camp. Sadly, this did not go according to plan and just 1 hour after having left Nkwali Camp he got horribly stuck! Some 9 hours later with lots of digging, slopping around in the mud and the help of a tractor the car was released from its muddy incarceration, and he turned around to head home arriving back at midnight. Shortly after his return home the heavens opened, and we received more rain. A very swift decision was made to not try again and hope for the best with the River Journeys and thankfully it came up enough to get him and his guys up there a couple of days ago to get started on opening camp.
Moving away from the muddy adventures being had here, we have had a lovely story from Jill Rogers, who spent Christmas at Robin’s House with her family celebrating a very special birthday. So, Jill over to you:
“We were a party of 6 and travelling with my 6- and 4-year-old grandchildren, a life changer for them both to the point where my grandson on return said, “when I next go to Zambia, I am not coming back!” so it must have been a success.
I hadn’t realised until I spoke to John our guide and Kiki (our guide from 9 years ago) there was some apprehension with children to this age for so long – would they get bored, fussy etc. Well, they were amazing never tiring of safari, eating the same wonderful food prepared by Steven and co. and the guide John and team and Michael where wonderful with them. They had prepared suppers when we went for sundowners and were constantly entertained and enthralled.
I also had the most amazing birthday treat from the team singing happy birthday to me and the most scrumptious cake which didn’t last long.
All of this aside, the game viewing was absolutely wonderful and over the 9 days we saw everything from magnificent birds, beautiful flowers, enormous elephants, wandering wild dogs and gracious and gorgeous leopards.
There were too many to pinpoint any favourites but having spent an extra-long day out in the bush heading much further afield than usual, we stopped for morning coffee under a tree where Logan, my grandson found and picked up a horn from a Roan. Lady luck was certainly on our side as just minutes after the fun of seeing this close and having a little play we actually came across some – just amazing.
The trip was truly wonderful and made even more memorable by the fact that we got to share it with our family – such a special place and wonderful memories for us to all have together.”
