Well, hello there. I hope that you are fabulously well after yet another wonderful weekend. Here in the Luangwa, we are getting ourselves excited and ready for the annual rebuilding of Tena Tena and Nsefu for the season. The team at Kuthengo have just finished their camp building so for this week I am handing you over to Casper and Yolandi, the Kuthengo management to fill you in on all that has been going on. Casper and Yolandi – over to you:
“We at Kuthengo are filled with excitement and gratitude. We’ve just opened the doors to Kuthengo Camp for the season, and it’s been an incredible journey getting here.
It wasn’t just a matter of flipping a switch and waiting for the guests to arrive. Oh no, it took much work from the team working tirelessly. From rebuilding, to fixing, our team tackled each task with a smile on their faces. And let me tell you, it’s not always easy working in the African bush!
Despite the challenges, our team couldn’t wait for the new season to begin. They’re passionate about sharing the beauty of Kuthengo Camp with our guests, and it shows in every detail.
As we worked, we were treated to some amazing wildlife sightings. Lion spoor could be seen around camp, and our resident hippos were still hanging around, enjoying the peaceful surroundings as well as cheetahs coming in for a stroll and a nice lay down under the tree (Watch here).
One of the highlights of each day was watching the sunset over the camp. It was a moment to reflect on our progress, feel a sense of accomplishment, and appreciate the beauty of our surroundings.
We re-opened on the 20th of March and the animals certainly got the memo, because our guests have been treated to some incredible wildlife encounters including several rhino sightings, cheetah, lion and more!
It’s been a wonderful start to the season and we’re looking forward to sharing more with you as it progresses.”
How wonderful, thank you so much for sharing this with us. It sounds like it has been very busy, and I am sure that everyone is excited about the season ahead.
To wrap up here in the Luangwa, the animals keep us busy and entertained whether it be the giant kingfishers nesting at Robin’s Bridge or the Pel’s fishing owl that seems to enjoy hanging out at Luangwa Safari House.
The sighting that stole the show this week though was a particularly cheeky young bull who decided that each and every time he saw a car he would put on a little show of telling us just how big and strong he was (Watch here)! As the rest of the herd carried on with their eating just ignoring the cars this one youngster decided that every opportunity, he had he would make the most of it whether it be shaking his head making his ears and trunk flap in every direction or stepping forward and then suddenly stopping or just simply giving a strange little hoot from his trunk. A few bushes bore the brunt of his excitement and guests and everyone around enjoyed watching his antics and just like that after a few days he decided that maybe he should stop making a spectacle of himself and now simply carries on eating with the rest of the herd.
