I hope you are keeping well and have had a fab weekend! Here in the Luangwa, it’s all systems go as we prepare for the Christmas festivities. This week however we’ll be hearing from Milo and the John’s Camp team in Mana Pools Zimbabwe, who have wrapped up the 2023 season. Over to you…

“Another year has come and gone and John’s Camp had an incredible season again, meeting some amazing safari travelers and sharing with them what we call paradise.

The team this year truly showed its depth and diversity, proving that hard work, determination and sheer passion for the love of the wild makes working remotely and away from family and friends is what gets the job done.

Tawanda and his team of guides, chefs, waiters, camp hands and mechanics not to forget the behind the scenes logistics ladies in Tina and Beatrice in Harare have held their heads up high and maintained a high level of service delivery throughout the season. John’s Camp Tripadvisor reviews speak for themselves this year with the team receiving some great feedback and wonderful reviews all round.

As some of you may know John’s Camp is a seasonal camp that we raise and erect every year for a 6 month season, April we mobilize the team and we roll into the Zambezi Valley to Mana Pools and relight in the same place the entire camp, from kitchen to staff tents and all in-between. This we do methodically and in a timely manner over the month of April to make sure we get everything just right for our new guests and the ones who just can’t stay away!

The team all understands exactly what goes where and how, so this is a real fun and team building time we all spend in the camp working tirelessly from sun-up to sunset. This new season will be our 16th year in Mana Pools and we can assure you it won’t be our last.

This year we had a special guest in camp, none other than Mr. Richard Branson, who was truly moved by all in camp. He especially took great interest in one of our Chef Natasha pictured below. Tash as we all call her has been a great asset to the camp proving she is a diverse and creative chef, she brings a tremendous energy to the entire camp and not just the kitchen. She is a great peoples person and always very willing to – how do we say it here in Africa: “Get Stuck In”! Tash will be working on some new menu ideas for the 2024 season and we all look forward to trying them out and decide which ones will make it onto your table next year.

John’s Camp will be making some minor upgrades and improvements so as to keep your safari experience truly wild yet with some creature comforts to encourage you back in the future. We would like the say big thank you to all who have had the time and belief in us. Have a Happy Christmas and a wonderful New Year! Let’s see what 2024 has in store for us!”

Wow thanks for the update Milo, sounds like it was a cracker of a season!

Well with just 1 week to go until Christmas, all that’s left for me to do is wish you Happy Holidays from all of us at RPS. I’m looking forward to sharing our Christmas news with you all next week.
