Well, hello there. I hope that you are fabulously well and have had a wonderful weekend. Here in the Luangwa, as can be expected this time of year… it’s been quite hot. We have successfully closed Mobile Walking and Luangwa Bush Camping for the season until next year. This week also sees Tena Tena closing for the season but apparently, there is rain forecast towards the end of the week, so it will be a race to get the tents washed and dried before that happens.
The animals are all a little on the hot and thirsty side and a little bleak about the risk of wandering down to the river to take a drink. And this morning when we turned on the sprinklers at home, we had 5 buffalo come and stand in the garden enjoying a moment of cooling. Anyways this week we are not hearing from me here in the Luangwa, instead we are zooming over to Malawi to hear from Kascha at Pumulani – Kascha over to you:
“Summer vibes at Lake Malawi are all about connecting with nature, relaxing and having adventures! The stunning clear waters and vibrant marine life offered plenty of activities. Guests went snorkelling to explore the colourful fish, did some fun tubing, or took boat rides to visit nearby fishing villages. Experiencing local culture and cuisine was a must. Some of the girls even got their hair braided.
Relaxing by the pool was perfect! The guests enjoyed the beautiful views while soaking up the sun. Our infinity pools that overlook the lake provided a serene atmosphere. They could sip on refreshing drinks, read good books, or take a dip to cool off.
Bird watching was definitely on most guests’ to-do list. Early mornings and late afternoons were typically reserved for this activity. It was a fantastic way to enjoy the area’s natural beauty with a diverse range of bird species. A pair of binoculars enhanced the experience – as some of the guest spotted over 20 species in one morning.
The sunset cruise on the Dhow was part of the magical experience! Gliding across the water as the sun dips below the horizon, painting the sky with shades of orange, pink, and purple. The gentle sound of the water and the traditional sails of the Dhow added to that special atmosphere.
Stargazing was truly enchanting. With minimal light pollution, the night sky was incredibly clear, allowing the guests to see a dazzling array of stars, catch sight of the constellations, and even the Milky Way stretching overhead.
Evenings were filled with an array of activities. Many guests gather around the fire to tell their stories – it sparked great conversations and laughter. The kids’ favourite snack was roasting marshmallows while their parents were relaxing. Some nights the Zikomo Band joined us in camp for live music. Many guests brought their board games to keep themselves entertained. Dinners were enjoyed in different candlelit settings by the pool, the rock – under the night sky, and the dining area.
As we reflect on the summer season at Pumulani – the stay here is highlighted by beautiful days at the beach, mesmerizing sunsets and rejuvenating adventures. Family connections with special conversation and shared experiences. Lasting impressions were certainly made by the colours of the Lake, vibrant wildlife, and the serene surroundings.
The Pumulani team created a welcoming atmosphere from the moment our guest arrived. Their personalized service, friendly nature and willingness to assist contributed significantly to these unforgettable moments. Guest leaving Pumulani were inspired by embracing nature, appreciation for a simpler way of life, and the connections between families and new friends that were established.
We greet you from Pumulani with the warmth of sun gently promising the next special experience.”
Wonderful Kascha – thanks so much! I can’t wait to come and visit as well.
On that note I will leave you for this week. Have a wonderful week ahead with plenty of smiles and laughter and don’t forget to look after one another.
