AboutThe Eastern Highlands
The Eastern Highlands is a mountain range in the east of Zimbabwe, of course – and is one of four distinct physiographic regions on the African continent. It extends for about 300 km running north-south along the Mozambique border. The range actually comprises three main mountain groups – Nyanga (to the north), which contains Zimbabwe’s highest mountain, Mount Nyangani, and the Honde Valley, which leads into Mozambique; Bvumba Mountains (centrally situated near the city of Mutare); and Chimanimani (to the south). Sparsely populated, this highland country is covered in rich grassland and forests, making it a great area for avid walkers, birders and botanists.
