A land & water experience

This safari covers two of the premier parks in Zambia and ends off on the majestic Lake Malawi.

The Lower Zambezi National Park where Kujana Camp is situated, is a key national park of Zambia, lies between the rugged and dramatic Zambezi escarpment and the wide and spectacular Zambezi River. There are many channels, lagoons, sandbanks and islands along the river and then open plains, woodland and bush areas behind the riverine strip.

The unspoiled South Luangwa National Park is one of natural jewels in Zambia’s crown, and home to one of the most varied collections of wildlife on the planet. The park is centred around the Luangwa River. The ox bow lagoons, woodland and plains of the valley host huge concentrations of game – including elephant, buffalo, leopard, lion, giraffe, hippo – and over 450 species of birds. Tena Tena is situated in a prime area in the park, the exclusive Nsefu sector.

Pumulani Lodge is the final stop on the Land & Water safari and is located on the Nankumba Peninsula, recognized as one of the most picturesque part of Lake Malawi, within the Lake Malawi National Park which is home to hundreds of fish species, including the colourful cichlids.

Day 5 - 8: Tena Tena Camp

Today you will head off to Zambia’s premier safari destination, the renowned South Luangwa National Park. Tena Tena Camp is next up... this remote and small camp lies within the Nsefu Sector of the National Park on the banks of the Luangwa River. A grove of mahogany trees shades the large custom-made tents and open-air bathrooms. From the dining room and large tented bar, guests can watch the elephants, hippo and antelope on the riverbanks. Nearby there is a spectacular lagoon, Buca Buca, where a whole morning can be spent quietly sitting while the game comes down to feed and drink. The Luangwa Valley is known as the valley of leopards and renowned for its walking safaris. You will be able to explore this fully over your time here. The park has over 450 bird species, so also a birders paradise. Activities are not set in stone, so tailored to suit your interests.

Pumulani Lodge is exclusively situated on the west side of the Nankumba Peninsula, surrounded by the Lake Malawi National Park. Over the next few days, you can choose to do as little or as much as you like in terms of activities. Our remote beach setting is ideal for those who simply want to soak up the sun and swim in the clear blue waters of the lake. Those who prefer to take a dive in the swimming pool, there is an infinity pool near the central dining area with grand views over the lake, as well as another infinity pool on beach level. For those seeking activity we offer many watersports activities like snorkeling, fishing, sailing, kayaking, waterskiing, wake boarding and fun tube rides (all motorized activities are excluded). At the end of the day climb aboard our dhow and let our experienced local crewmen take you sailing into the sunset.

Itinerary of Land and Water by map

The Land & Water safari is the perfect combination of Zambia and Malawi, what a great introduction to Southern Africa. The staff, food, guiding and organisations were all superb. There was so much to see and do, both on safari and then finally on Lake Malawi. I would certainly do another trip.
Justin T about Land and Water
The animals we saw and the experiences in Zambia were wonderful, as were the final days soaking up the sun on Lake Malawi. We all came away with wonderful memories, having spent time in both a bush and beach setting.
