Well, hello there. I hope that you are fabulously well. Here in the Luangwa the river is up, the bush is green and the skies are dramatic.
Before we get into this week’s news though, we wanted to share some exciting updates from our photo competition. Voting is officially open, and we were completely blown away by the entries received, thank you to everyone who took part! Narrowing it down to the final nominees was no easy task. Back to the business of the day… for this week we are hearing from Geni and Bruce Haney who had a lovely trip to Mkulumadzi last year. Geni and Bruce over to you:
“We discovered the RPS web site during the pandemic when all we could do was wish we could go visit every camp you would discuss in your Monday email and here we are now writing about our trip.
We finally got the opportunity in June 2025, to travel to Mkulumadzi (watch here) and meet our hosts Johan and Anneri. Everything on the way to the camp was very lush and I was concerned we would not see much. Boy was I wrong.
From the elephant that greeted us when we arrived at camp to the lions, warthogs, hippos, more elephants (watch here), more lions, zebras, giraffes, snakes and everything else I’m forgetting, we saw more than we could imagine.
Our hosts, Johan and Anneri were fabulous. The food was delicious and plenty, and they made sure we were comfortable in our accommodations and that our drives were exciting and fulfilling. I personally think they sent word to the animals we were coming so they came out to greet us.
We have done many safaris in Africa, and this was the most fulfilling experience we have had. Thank you very much indeed.”

There is little else for me to add this week except a quick follow up on the Tena Tena aardvark who we were so excited about and set up a camera trap and everything but the only image we captured for 6 consecutive nights were Bertram’s knees and gum boots!! Not a single track has been seen since our initial excitement, so now the camera trap is back down at Nkwali, I am sure that activity shall resume.
I shall keep all other news for next week and bid you a very fond farewell; have a fabulous week ahead with plenty of smiles and laughter and don’t forget to look after one another.
