I do hope that you are well and have had a wonderful weekend. Here it has been a frantic one and there was certainly no taking it easy as the last supply run up to the camps was packed up to get the last of everything that they could possibly need up to them before they open. We do like to keep ourselves very busy so just as Tena Tena and Nsefu open and we have a millisecond to take a breath we then start on Luangwa Bush Camping. John and his team have headed up to start getting all their camp sites cleared and footbridges in for their walks. All done before opening up their tents to start washing and airing everything. The mini mobiles that John runs is a fabulous in-between option and offers amazing walking experiences with just one or two nights in a tent so in short, a taster and let me tell you it’s not exactly camping.

However, this week we are not staying in the Luangwa instead we are heading to the lake for updates from the Pumulani team so Kascha over to you:
“May is one of the most rewarding months to visit Pumulani. The weather is ideal—cool enough for activities yet warm enough to enjoy the beach and lake. It’s a perfect balance of adventure, cultural exploration, and peaceful downtime.

Many of our guests have combined outdoor exercise with cultural immersion, cycling or walking to nearby villages. These leisurely excursions offer an opportunity to interact with locals and gain insight into everyday life, providing a deeper appreciation of the country’s history and traditions.

For those seeking more adventure, the hike to Star Beach remains a favourite, rewarding trekkers with breath taking views of the lake at every turn. Kayaking offers another way to embrace the scenery, allowing guests to glide across the water while enjoying time with family and friends.

Yet, some of the best moments at Pumulani come from simply unwinding. True to its name, meaning “to rest” Pumulani offers a serene escape. Whether lounging by the infinity pool, reading on a private deck, or simply taking in the views, the lodge provides countless spaces to relax and recharge.

One of the most beautiful experiences remains the sunset Dhow cruise. In May, the sky transforms into a breath taking canvas of deep oranges, pinks, and purples as the sun sets over Lake Malawi. As night falls, the crisp air, the absence of light pollution, and the vast expanse of stary sky makes dinner an unforgettable experience.

Speaking of food – our kitchen team recently took part in an intensive chef training that brought fresh energy to the lodge’s culinary offering. Over several focused days, the chefs refined their knife skills, plating techniques, and garnishing methods—paying special attention to making the most of the ingredients readily available in the pantry.
It was a packed schedule with plenty to absorb, but the team rose to the challenge with enthusiasm. As they put it: “We’re excited to share what we’ve learned with our guests!”

Beyond the landscapes and activities, what truly elevates a stay at Pumulani is the warmth of our team. Time and again, guests remark on the attentiveness and kindness of our staff, whose presence adds to the heart of this experience. It’s a reminder that while the beauty of Pumulani speaks for itself, it’s the connections made here that leave the most lasting impression.
Warm greeting from Lake Malawi.”

Wow, wonderful! I for one cannot wait for my next visit to see you guys. Thanks so much for sharing. For now though, I think that there is very little else for me to say so I shall bid you a very fond farewell and look forward to telling you more of all that is going on next week. Between now and then have a fantastic week with plenty of smiles and laughter and don’t forget to look after one another.
