Well, hello there. I hope that you are fabulously well and have had a lovely weekend. Here in the Luangwa, it’s a little on the sticky side but you are not going to hear us complaining as our little slice of paradise is looking at its very best this time of the year. This week I am going to hand you over to Tony Faulkner who has visited us a few times from Malawi and came back to stay at Robin’s House for a few days last week. Tony over to you:

“This is not our first, or our last visit to Robin Pope Safaris, however, it was our 1st time at Robin’s House. We arrived, after travelling from Lilongwe, to be greeted by all the staff that were looking after us and soon had a refreshing beverage in our hands gazing out over the river from the deck.

An amazing setting

After a delicious lunch and a brief siesta, we embarked on an afternoon / night drive into the Park. Although you do not see the same quantities of game, compared to the dry season, we still managed to see everything in our 3 days, from large male Elephants, buffalos, giraffe, antelopes and all the way down to the diminutive elephant shrew.

Crossing the river by boat, what more can one ask for…

It is probably our 4th green season visit, and we were fortunate to have mostly dry weather, however the rain did make an appearance one afternoon in a traditional afternoon thunderstorm, which provide much relief, cooling everything down and providing water for the dry pans.

Despite the occasional grey moment, the sightings were amazing with some hyena looking at us with a strange sideways glance as if wandering what on earth we were up to. Zebra grazing on the luscious grass of this time of the year which makes them look even more dazzling. And of course, leopards including a stunning pair of leopard cubs which emerged from a thicket where their mum was guarding a recent meal.

“Hey – what are you looking at” – thoughts of a spotted hyena
A reflective moment from one of the many zebra

The highlight of our visit, however, was chancing upon a pack of wild dogs (11 in number), not far from the camp! Invigorated by the recent rain they ran and played in the running water along the side of the road, turning off down the Nkwali road and commencing their hunt. It was a treat to follow them until they vanished into the bush.

Who says you have to go far to find the elusive painted dog!

The lions evaded us however, on our last morning we heard them calling as we sipped our early morning coffee, then they kindly walked out of the bush and on to the bank opposite to us giving us a good view, albeit at a distance!!

Our thanks to Robin Pope Safaris, John, our guide, and Michael who looked after us. Robin’s House was amazing, the food great and the service 2nd to none.

Tony, Lauren and Mike Faulkner”

Amazing, thanks so much Tony and we look forward to seeing you again soon.

All that is left is for me to is bid you a very fond farewell and hope that you have a fabulous week ahead with plenty of smiles and laughter and don’t forget to look after one another.
