I hope that you are well and have had yet another fantastic weekend. This week we are hearing from the team at Mkulumadzi so before I start digressing into Luangwa stories, I shall hand you over to Anneri and Johan for news from them:
“Summer is now truly in full swing here with the typical higher temperatures being experienced. This fortunately comes with some amazing experiences here at Mkulumadzi and guests are having the time of their lives.
Both in and out of camp its been fantastic experiences all around… but one stand out has been the star bed. In itself going to sleep under the vast uninterrupted African sky is a truly magical event and combined with lying in bed enjoying the view and the breeze when suddenly the silence is pierced by the low and powerful roar of a lion. From not far away the lions started calling and continued to do so as they passed by the star bed. The following morning the guests had a look around with their guide for the tracks and found them just a few meters away from star bed. As if this wasn’t enough as a standalone experience just a week or so later the same happened again – WOW… what I wouldn’t give to experience that.
In camp our resident genet has been making itself more visible and we have been seeing it quite frequently going about its business in the main area looking for a snack amongst the leaves of under the deck. Guest Cath McComb was fortunate enough to get some photos and this video and was happy to share that with us!
With the rising temperatures the best place to be is undoubtedly the infinity pool overlooking the Shire River with a cold drink of your choice in hand. With the drier vegetation it is also easier to see animals on the opposite bank off the river. Guests need to always have binoculars and camera at hand as we have been fortunate to see elephants coming down to drink and lions on a leisurely stroll looking for a shady spot to rest for the afternoon.
One afternoon we were meeting guests at the foot bridge and while we were waiting for them to arrive at the car park, we saw a pride of 7 lions making their way to the river. When they spotted us, they simply turned around and found some shade not too far from the turning circle. That meant that we all had front row seats of them while standing on the foot bridge waiting for an opportunity to safely get the guests to the vehicle ready for their afternoon safari. Now that is a way to be welcomed at Mkulumadzi.
Enjoy this short clip of it!
For our keen birders we have had some amazing sightings that include the beautiful racquet tailed roller, lilac breasted roller, vultures, Livingstone flycatcher, various eagles and bee eaters to name but a few.
The next few months is going to be an action-packed time here at Mkulumadzi, never knowing what you will find around the next corner. Whether it is on game drive, relaxing on your balcony, sipping on a cocktail by the pool or spending a night under the African sky. We hope to share this experience with you soon. Warm regards from the Mkulumadzi Team.”
Wonderful thanks so much for sharing this with us, sounds like it’s exciting times and we look forward to the next update.
I shall not disappear off into tales from the Luangwa instead I shall keep you waiting until next week. So, between now and then, have a fantastic week ahead with plenty of smiles and laughter and don’t forget to look after one another.
